Dear Walking Friends,
The romance of the port city of Halifax will be at its peak during the Tall Ships Challenge in July 2007. Scott Walking Adventures will lead an intriguing weekend walking tour exploring the historical backdrop for this spectacle of sail, from July 13-16, 2007.
The remarkable Parade of Sail, featuring more than 35 historic sailing vessels from around the world, will be observed from the heights of York Redoubt, built in 1793 to help defend Halifax Harbour at the outbreak of war between Britain and France. While making time to tour the ships, Scott Walking Adventures will also guide guests through the maritime history of the harbour. There will be visits to McNabs Island, where grassy remains of a fort hold the stories of its days as a gun battery at the entrance to Halifax Harbour, to Fisherman's Cove, and to the lighthouse at Peggy's Cove, famed for the mesmerizing surf lashing against granite boulders. This intimate tour of Halifax Harbour will take in waterfront museums and Point Pleasant Park with stops for picnic lunches, sumptuous seafood in the historic waterfront district, and dinner theatre. Accommodation will be at the stately Lord Nelson Hotel adjacent to the city's beautiful Public Gardens.
Wherever your feet may take you...happy walking and hiking!
