We hope that you have been enjoying your summer so far, the weather has been so nice that it's hard to believe that September is just around the corner.
With all of the excitement of coming back from vacation or camp, leaving for vacation or just getting ready for the busy month ahead it can be easy to forget to book your dental cleaning. For your convenience, you can now request an appointment online. Simply click here to request an appointment or give Nadine a call at our office.
We had many responses to our last issue with great ideas for future issues. Some of you have suggested that you would like to share your pictures from trips with us. We think that is a great idea! We would love to see them and with your permission we may even use them in future articles. Due to your requests, we have added pictures from Dr. Silver's trip to Israel, Click here to view them.
We also have included a one question survey in this issue that we hope you will answer so that we can continue to improve your future visits.
Lastly, we would like to say goodbye to Jenn our hygienist who has left our office for the exotic locale of the Cayman Islands where she will continue in the hygiene profession. We wish her the very best in the future.
See you in September,
The Rosedale Dental Team

Next time you brush your teeth take a closer look at your brush.
|
If the ends are starting to fray or the bristles are staring to lose their shape, its time for a new brush.
It is recommended that you change your toothbrush at least every four months, so if you can't remember when you last changed your tooth brush... perhaps today is a good day. |

IMPORTANT INFORMATION IF YOU TAKE ANTIBIOTICS PRIOR TO DENTAL TREATMENT.
If you have a heart condition and were told to take short-term antibiotics prior to a dental treatment then the following article may be of interest to you.
The American Dental Association and American Heart Association have recently released that many patients who had been advised to take antibiotics prior to a dental procedure to protect against Infective Endocarditis no longer need them.
The recommendation includes people with:
- Mitral valve prolapse
- Rheumatic heart disease
- Bicuspid valve disease
- Calcified aortic stenosis
- Congenital heart conditions
|
|
Of course we recommend that you verify with your medical practitioner that you can discontinue use of prophylactic antibiotics. If you have an artificial heart valve, a history of infective endocarditis or a specific and/or serious congenital heart condition you should still continue to take your antibiotics prior to dental treatment.

Why does your dentist want to schedule another appointment with you so soon - even if today's oral examination was perfect?
Regular dental visits are essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. For maximum benefit, a good home care regimen must be supplemented with an examination at least every six months. Depending on the status of your oral health, your dentist may recommend more frequent visits.
Several months after cleaning, teeth can have plaque build-up as well as stains from food, beverages, tobacco, etc. Over time, plaque build-up can harden into tartar (or calculus) formation.
Checking your teeth for decay is only a small part of a thorough oral exam.
