As I am writing this note to you the summer is officially closing - at least psychologically - with the passing of Labour Day. I personally feel recharged after a short vacation.
With the children, big and small, returning to school, remember to encourage good oral hygiene habits even when they are not around for you to remind them. It is always preferable to prevent dental problems rather than treat them after they appear.
If you had been putting off a cleaning or dental treatment in order to accommodate a more flexible summer schedule, now is a great time to schedule or reschedule your appointment, before the holidays roll around.

Please let me know if you find these topics interesting and feel free to offer me suggestions as to what you would like to see in future issues.
We would like to wish all of our students a healthy and successful school year. |

Why Have Your Teeth Cleaned?
Proper oral hygiene is important not only for your appearance, but also for your overall health. Improper oral hygiene may lead to infection and gum disease with jawbone and tooth loss (periodontal disease). Periodontal disease has recently been associated with cardiovascular disease and strokes.
Why is professional cleaning part of good oral hygiene?
Oral Cancer
As part of a routine cleaning and examination you are also screened for oral cancer, which is usually curable if diagnosed and treated early.
|
Gum Disease
If gum disease is diagnosed early, it can be reversed or controlled through treatment. Gum disease is caused by infection in the gum tissue and bone, eventually leading to tooth loss. Regular dental cleanings - and check ups - help to prevent gum disease.

|
Your Teeth
Regular dental cleanings, along with check ups, brushing, and flossing, are important to let you keep your own teeth for as long as possible, and therefore maintain your normal chewing function and overall good health.

Brush After Lunch!
Look both ways before you cross the street, always hold an adults hand and brush your teeth after every meal were good pieces of advice when you were a kid.
 |
Well guess what:
You should always look both ways,
It's nice to hold someone's hand,
and you should still brush your teeth after every meal.
|
|
Make a habit out of keeping a tooth brush at the office and take a moment to clean your teeth after lunch, (your email can wait).
Keep your office tooth brush well covered, dry it after each use and change it more frequently than your home brush (due to office germs).
Brushing your teeth will help protect them from decay, refresh you, and get rid of the garlic taste from that pasta you ate, your mouth will appreciate it and so will your coworkers. |
